Structured Support for New Massachusetts PMHNPs

Walk With Us Wellness provides combined collaboration and clinical supervision for Massachusetts psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioners with fewer than two years of qualifying supervised practice.

This service is designed to support PMHNPs as they develop confidence, strengthen their clinical judgment, and work toward independent prescriptive practice.

What Is Included?

Collaboration and supervision are provided together as one comprehensive service.

The collaboration establishes the formal professional relationship and mutually agreed-upon prescriptive-practice guidelines. Ongoing supervision provides the individualized clinical guidance, consultation, and prescribing support needed throughout the arrangement.

Services may include:

  • Development and review of prescriptive-practice guidelines

  • Scheduled individual supervision meetings

  • Psychiatric assessment and differential diagnosis

  • Psychopharmacology and medication-management consultation

  • Review of complex or high-risk clinical cases

  • Controlled-substance prescribing guidance

  • Documentation and treatment-planning support

  • Risk assessment and safety planning

  • Guidance regarding consultation, referral, and escalation of care

  • Support with ethical concerns and professional boundaries

  • Preparation for the transition to independent prescriptive practice

The frequency and structure of supervision will be determined based on the PMHNP’s experience, clinical setting, patient population, scope of practice, and individual support needs.

Who Is This Service For?

This service may be appropriate for Massachusetts PMHNPs who:

  • Have fewer than two years of qualifying supervised practice

  • Are beginning their first PMHNP position

  • Are entering outpatient psychiatry or private practice

  • Need a qualified healthcare professional for supervised prescriptive practice

  • Want individualized guidance with prescribing and clinical decision-making

  • Value accountability, professional development, and continued learning

Rates

Collaboration and supervision services begin at $250 per hour.

The final rate and expected time commitment will depend on the PMHNP’s scope of practice, patient population, prescribing responsibilities, supervision needs, and the complexity of the collaboration arrangement.

Billable services may include scheduled supervision meetings, case consultation, record or documentation review, development of prescriptive-practice guidelines, and other supervisory responsibilities outlined in the written agreement.

Consultation and Approval Process

All prospective PMHNPs must complete an initial consultation before a collaboration and supervision agreement is offered.

The consultation will include a review of:

  • Massachusetts licensure and board certification

  • Prescriptive authority and registration status

  • Previous PMHNP experience

  • Practice setting and patient population

  • Services and diagnoses treated

  • Controlled-substance prescribing

  • Emergency and after-hours procedures

  • Professional liability coverage

  • Current supervision and consultation needs

Acceptance is based on professional fit, scope of practice, available capacity, and the ability to establish a safe and appropriate supervision arrangement.

Important Information

Collaboration and supervision do not create an employment relationship. Each PMHNP remains responsible for maintaining all required licenses, certifications, registrations, professional liability coverage, employer or practice policies, and regulatory requirements.

Collaboration and supervision do not include emergency clinical coverage, practice management, billing, credentialing, legal representation, or malpractice coverage unless specifically stated in the written agreement.
